Freecom Technologies has just announced that its Mobile Drive XXS drive line-up has reached the Old Continent. Claimed to be the world's smallest 2.5-inch external hard drives, the XXS' weight just 155 grams, measure 109.8 x 79.5 x 13.5 mm and come in 160, 250 and 320GB capacities. In addition to (apparently) being record-breaking small, the Mobile Drive XXS are also the world's first 2.5-inch drives to feature native USB interfaces.
Ready to be hooked up to PC and/or Macs boasting USB 1.1/2.0 connectors, the Mobile Drive XXS' have a 50,000 hour MTBF (mean time before failure) but this is the POH (power on hours) rating so it's likely that the drives will survive long enough to not worry anyone.
As announced by Freecom, the 160, 250 and 320GB Mobile Drive XXS models have recommended price tags of £44.99, £59.99 and £79.99 respectively. The 250 and 320GB drives can already be found in Europe for as low as
79 Euro and
83 Euro respectively.
