Taking the spotlight, Nvidia has entered the 40nm era with the announcement of no less than five GPUs manufactured on the advanced process node. Unlike AMD, Nvidia has left the desktop segment on hold for this milestone and introduced nothing but mobile GPUs that get to power the GeForce GTS 260M, GTS 250M, GT 240M, GT 230M and G210M.

Detailed below, the new chips are not only 40nm-made but they also come with support for DirectX 10.1, with two of them (used for the GTS 260M and GTX 250M) also featuring GDDR5 memory, making this a trio or 'firsts' for the Green Goblin of Santa Clara. The five mobile GPUs cover the high-performance, performance and mainstream segments, and are claimed to have won Nvidia over 100 design wins, meaning we'll be seeing them soon enough in a heap of laptops. Now if only we could get some desktop 40nm parts too.
